Frances A. (Smidler) Hoover

Frances A. Hoover, 85, of Star City passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at home.

Born on February 25, 1936 in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Hannah (Dunker) Smidler.

She was a Francesville High School graduate. 

On July 30, 1955 she married Donald “Dink” Hoover.  He preceded her in death on November 6, 1992.

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pulaski and the Christian Mother’s Society.

Frances was a farmer’s wife and mother and had many jobs in her life.  She was a jack of all trades and a master of none.

She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and most of all spending time with her family.

Survivors include her children, Douglas Hoover (Lenora) of Star City, David Hoover (Mary) of Star City, Dale Hoover (Linda) of Star City, Denise Johnson (Raymond) of Star City and Diana Tiede (Thomas) of Star City, brother, Herman “Sonny” Smidler (Norma) of Monticello, and sisters, Katherine “Bunny” Brogdon (Nub) of Winamac and Paula Beauchamp (Larry) of Monticello.  She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by infant son, Daniel Hoover and brother, Freddie Smidler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pulaski. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center.

Burial will be at St. Joseph South Catholic Cemetery in Pulaski.

Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joseph Christian Mother’s Society and/or the Star City Volunteer Fire Department.
