Russell W. Fry, Sr.

April 29, 1931 — June 26, 2025

Russell William Fry, Sr., a man of deep faith, quiet strength, and generous spirit, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at the age of 94.

Born on April 29, 1931, Russell lived a life rooted in love—for God, for family, and for the simple pleasures of a good meal and a good glass of wine.

He was a man who never met a stranger, whose warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Russell graduated from Royal Center High School in 1950 and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the height of the Korean War. Russell served aboard the USS Chanticleer, a submarine rescue ship. Russell spent the majority of his professional career with the National Bank’s Trust Department, where he forged countless relationships.

On January 14, 1951, Russell married the love of his life, Ruth Billene Herald. She was the only woman he ever dated, and their marriage lasted nearly 70 years until Billene’s passing in 2020.

In the fall of 1999, Russell and Billene moved back to the farmland of his youth, where, at the age of 70, he helped build the home Billene designed—an extraordinary act of love and craftsmanship from a gifted carpenter. A few years later, they relocated to Noblesville, Indiana, as age and health began to limit their independence.

Russell is survived by five children: Russell Fry Jr. (Teresa) of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida; Terry Fry (Melinda) of Logansport; Susan (Fry) Stanley of Westfield; Laura (Fry) Mayhill of Logansport; and Kristen Fry of Noblesville.

He was a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

His legacy of kindness, hard work, and love for family will live on through each of them.

A memorial service celebrating Russell’s life will be held on October 4, 2025 at 11:00 am at Crooked Creek Christian Church, 7032W CR 325N, Royal Center, Indiana.

He leaves behind a world that is better for his presence in it, and hearts that are fuller because of his love. A life well lived. A man deeply loved. He will be dearly missed.
