Renate (Oberloher) Montz

July 5, 1940 — October 25, 2021

Kewanna

Renate Montz, 81, of Kewanna passed away at her home on Monday, October 25, 2021.

She was born on July 5, 1940 in Freising, Germany to Wilhelm and Renata (Wimmer) Oberloher.  Renate moved with her mom from Germany to Kewanna in 1956, graduated from Kewanna High School and on September 23, 1960 she married Victor Alan Montz.  Renate spoke fluent English and German.

Renate was an avid gardener, transforming a former 2 acre cornfield into a nature lover’s paradise full of trees she planted herself while holding down a full time job on the night shift at Singer in Winamac.

She hosted many Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at her home.  Cooking for her family was close to her heart.  Her daughters especially enjoyed the German meals Renate served them.

Renate was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She enjoyed music, nature, and spending time outdoors whether alone or with her children and grandchildren.  She marveled at God’s creation.

She leaves a legacy behind of joy and kindness.  Renate will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her mother, Renata Oberloher-Weller of Kewanna, daughters, Christina Renate Mace (David) of Owens Cross Road, Alabama and Lorrie Lynn Kendall (Dwayne) of Westfield, grandchildren, John A. Mace (Ellis) of Owens Cross Roads, Alabama, Kiersten Renate Dalton (Landon) of Gurley, Alabama, great granddaughter, Elle Renate Dalton, Gurley, Alabama, brother, Wilhelm Oberloher of San Antonio, Texas, step siblings, Jimmy Weller of Lafayette, Claudia Weller-Newcomer of Rochester, Sharon Weller of Zionsville and special friend, Alan McPherson of Kewanna.

She was preceded in death by father, Wilhelm Oberloher, husband, Victor Montz and step father, Paul “Bud” Weller.

Family services will be held with burial on Monday November 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Bruce Lake Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Metzger Chapel, Kewanna.
