Lula Ousley, 88, of Kewanna passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025 in Monticello surrounded by her loving family. She was born to the late Ward and Helen (Henning) James on September 22, 1936 in Marion, Indiana.
She was married to Edgal Aron Ousley on May 15, 1954 and went on to share 51 loving years together before he preceded her in death in 2005. Lula resided in Kewanna for over 60 years. She could often be seen outside taking care of her yard including touching up her garden statues.
Lula was devoted to her family, and especially bragging about her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and especially her two sets of twin great-granddaughters. Her first proud bragging moment was at her first Grandparents Day as she won the Youngest Grandparent Award. Her years working at Bickel’s helped furnish her crafting hobby as well as supplying her grandchildren with their own crafts. Glitter and glue could be found everywhere. This crafting ability was lifelong as she was quite the inventive engineer with her creations held together by glue or duct tape. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings and always up for an adventure with her sisters. There were never dull stories when they returned.
Lula is remembered fondly by her loved ones for her ability to tell stories, her sparkle, and her sass and always looking so well put together no matter where or what she might be doing. She enjoyed watching her favorite college basketball teams and cheering on her beloved Hoosiers.
She is survived by daughters: Brenda Whiteman, Kokomo and Diane Miller (Tom) Monticello. Grandchildren: Angie and Rodney Whiteman, Marc and Eric Ousley, Rachel (Ousley) Bell, Riley and Tommy Miller. Great grandchildren: Ella and Jaden Whiteman, Brayden and Maycie Ousley, Karynne and Kamryn Ousley, Abigail and Allison Bell. Sister Martha Steele; and brother Jim James and several beloved nieces and nephews.
Lula is preceded in death by her husband Aron Ousley; son Gary Ousley, her parents, and three sisters and four brothers.
