Larry "Junior" G. Coles

Monticello

The world lost a shining light and gained an angel on Tuesday, May 31, 2022. Larry “Junior” G. Coles, 50 of Monticello passed away at I.U. Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, after a short illness, with his family by his side.

Larry worked at Regal for 6 years and at Rescare for 18 years where he met his most special client, Sam Norfleet.

Larry’s life began in Zanesville, Ohio where he graduated from Zanesville High School in 1990. In 1991, Larry moved to Indiana where he spent the remainder of his life with his partner of 30 years, John Cottrell. Larry’s heart was big, his smile so bright and his personality infectious.

Larry loved his family immensely and took great pride in being a father and grandfather among so many other roles.

Together, Larry and John shared the joy of raising 5 children, Jeremy Cottrell of Winamac, Lacy Cottrell of Lafayette, Lindsey (Cottrell) and Nick Thompson of Winamac, Jona (Cottrell) Sheline of Rochester and Erin (Sweet) and Mike McCollun of Tennessee.

Survivors also include his father and mother, Doug and Diana Coles of Zanesville, Ohio, grandmother, Sally Stevenson of Zanesville, Ohio, father and mother-in-law, Jerry and Violet Hughes of Indiana, sisters, Loretta (Coles) and Buster Holbert of Zanesville, Ohio and Vonetta (Coles) and Chad Wittekind of Pleasant City, Ohio, brother, Doug and Heather Coles of Zanesville, Ohio, siblings-in-law, Donna (Cottrell) and Bob Mann of Lafayette, Diana (Cottrell) Smith of Monticello, Joe Cottrell and Wayne Hurt of Whitestown, Indiana, 13 grandchildren, Bayli and  Ellen Cottrell, Nicholas, Kylie, Jonathan Thompson, Ashlynn McCollun, Brooklyn and Colton Sheline, Jay, Charles, Violet and Olivia Cottrell and Little Roy Cottrell, nieces and nephews, Renee (Bird) and Anthony Croston of Zanesville, Ohio, Gage Bird of Zanesville, Ohio, Karecia (Wittekind) and Brandon Scott of Byesville, Ohio, Cinthea (Brandon) Wittekind of Zanesville, Ohio, Annika Wittekind of Coshocton, Ohio, Kobe Coles of Dresden, Ohio and Dominic Coles. Larry is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, close family friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Alma Simeral, Ronnie Willett, John and Stella Cottrell and Evan and Annamay Humprey, father-in-law, Roy Cottrell, brother-in-law, Danny Cottrell, and his uncle Jerry Simeral (Won’t they have fun)

Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 3, 2022 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel, 304 S. Chicago St., Royal Center, IN. 46978

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Bell Center Cemetery.
