Joan E. Smith

Joan E. Smith, 77, of Sheridan, IN., formerly of Kewanna, IN. passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007at Sheridan Healthcare Center.
Born March 5, 1929 in Chicago, IL., she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Leta (Murphy) Stevens. On June 10, 1949, she married Don Eldon Smith, he preceded her in death on March 28, 1977.
Joan was a 1947 graduate of Knox High School. She was a homemaker and formerly an assistant at the Kewanna Union Twp. Library. She was a member of the Kewanna Church of Christ and loved christian music. Joan attended Sheridan First Christian Church.
Survivors include 1 daughter, Gayle Newton (Terry), Sheridan, IN., 1 sister, Evelyn Gibbs (Ralph), Centennial, CO., 1 grandson, Trent Newton (Angela), Kirklin, IN., 2 granddaughters, Amy Dehmer (Charles), Westfield, IN., Kami Newton, Sheridan, IN., great-grandchildren, Madeline, Abigail, and Douglas Newton & Kimberly Bayless, neice, Carolyn Schierhorn and grand-nephew, Daniel Schierhorn.
She is preceded in death by her husband, 2 infant sons, and 1 sister, Betty Schierhorn.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at Citizens I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Kewanna, IN. at 12:00pm with Pastor Scott Meneely officiating.
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
