Jean A. DeWitt

September 7, 1929 — April 14, 2017

Jean A. DeWitt, 87, of Royal Center passed away at 2:35 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.

Born on September 7, 1929 in Cass County, she was the daughter of the late James Ruben and Goldie (Roller) Oswalt.

On June 29, 1946 she married Gail F. DeWitt.  He preceded her in death on September 25, 1990.

Jean went to school in Royal Center, then she was pulled out of school to care for a very sick sister.  She fixed breakfast and helped her other brothers and sisters get ready for school.  She then did the house work while her parents worked in Logansport to support their large family.  After her marriage to Gail and raising their two children, Jean went to beauty college and became a beautician and retired after 40 years.

Jean was a member of Royal Center United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, James F. DeWitt and wife Marilyn Kay of Royal Center, daughter, Ladene A. Smith of Royal Center, grandchildren, Kevin and Gary DeWitt, Mike and Jeff Zeider all of Royal Center, great grandchildren, Chris and Sydney DeWitt, Luke, Landon and Sydney Zeider and sister, Ruth Sterling of Royal Center.

She was also preceded in death by an infant grandson, Mark Anthony Zeider, brothers, Donald, Fred and Richard Oswalt and sisters, Patricia Pratt, Virginia LaFeve and Geneva Gillsinger.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel with Pastor Tim Minnick officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 17, 2017 at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Bell Center Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bell Center Cemetery.
