Gerald D. Fields, 85, of Leiters Ford passed away peacefully at 5:30 a.m., Sunday, November 16, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.
Born on May 13, 1932 in South Bend, he was the son of the late Josh and Dottie (Cowen) Fields.
He was a graduate of Aubbeenaubee High School.
Gerald was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and he retired from the Indiana State Highway Department after 30 years where he worked as Area Supervisor.
On September 16, 1962 he married Phyllis E. Shirey. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2000.
He enjoyed farming and especially growing pumpkins for his grandchildren and friends in the neighborhood. Gerald also enjoyed cooking where he spent years working to perfect his fudge recipe and photography and had a natural eye for getting the perfect picture.
Survivors include his daughter, Christina Stayback (Larry) of Angola and son, Timothy Fields of Leiters Ford, grandchildren, Andrew Stayback (Jackie) of Louisville, Kentucky, Brad Stayback of Indianapolis and Ryan Stayback (Taylor) of Lafayette.
He was also preceded in death by sister, Violet Gooley and brothers, Ermal Fields and Robert Fields.
Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Harrison-Metzger & Rans Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel.
Services will be private.
Burial will be at Leiters Ford I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Military Rites performed.
Memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice Care and/or Purdue Cancer Research Fund.
