Listen to Obituary

Cheryl Lynn Fox (Dommer), age 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Star City on Saturday, January 3, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Cheryl was born on October 2, 1953, in Winamac, Indiana, to Henry and Louise Dommer, who preceded her in death. She lived a life rooted in family, faith, and genuine love for others.

She was united in marriage to James “Jim” Fox, the love of her life, who preceded her in death on April 30, 2007. Cheryl loved Jim dearly and missed him greatly. Though many years passed after his death, her love for him never faded. She carried his memory with her always, often speaking of him with warmth and affection and cherishing the life they shared together.

In later years, Cheryl found companionship with Delbert May, with whom she shared a home in Star City. Their time together was meaningful and allowed them to find comfort and support after the loss of their spouses.

Cheryl is survived by her beloved children, Dustin Fox and his wife Kelly, and Misty Wheeler and her husband Gabriel (Gabe). She was a proud and loving grandmother to six grandchildren: Alexis Syler (Patton), Cyrus Blackwell, Riley Wheeler (Trynity), Mackenzie Wheeler, Jayden Fox, and Lacie Wheeler. She was also a devoted “Gigi” to five great-grandchildren: Kellyana Blackwell, Swayze Syler, Hanley Syler, Aurora Wheeler, and Stevie Syler, each of whom brought her immense happiness.

She is also survived by her siblings, Connie Haschel, Chris Antrim, and Curt Dommer. Cheryl shared an especially close and loving bond with her sisters and brother. Their relationship was marked by lifelong friendship, deep loyalty, and countless shared memories. They were a constant source of laughter, support, and comfort to one another, and that bond remained strong throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Rick Haschel and Rusty Antrim.

A lifelong member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, in Winamac, Indiana. Cheryl’s faith remained a steady and guiding presence throughout her life. Retired for several years, she enjoyed riding motorcycles, music, and dancing, and she had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome, loved, and at ease in her presence.

Above all else, Cheryl cherished her family. She loved “her” children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren deeply and was their constant supporter, cheering them on through every stage and accomplishment of their lives. Her kindness, warmth, and loving spirit will be deeply missed.

Private family services will be held with burial at Franklin Township Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and/or The National Kidney Foundation.
